A reference of user- and channel modes

On this page you will find a reference of channel mode's and user mode's. Some of these are IRC-daemon specific and will only be available if you are connected to an Opens external link in new window UnrealIRCd daemon. You can set or remove these be typing

/mode #<channel>|<nick> [+|-]<mode> [<arguments>]

to your IRC-client.

Mode	Arguments	Description
A		Only administrators may join.
a	<nick>	Gives <nick> channel administrator (protected (&)) status.
b	<nick>!<user>@<host>	Bans <nick>!<user>@<host> from the channel.
c		Strips the color-character (0x03) from every message sent to the channel.
C		CTCP is not allowed in this channel.
e	<nick>!<user>@<host>	Ban exception. Excludes <nick>!<user>@<host> from the channel ban list.
f	[<number><type>#<action><minutes>,<number2>...]:<seconds>	Anti-flood protection. channel mode <action> is set for <minutes> minutes if there are <number> <type>'s in <seconds> seconds. Possible <type>'s are: c: CTCP's: text's, <action>'s (default): (+C), +m +M j: join's: text's, <action>'s (default): (+i), +R k: knock's: text's, <action>'s (default): (+K) m: message's/notice's: text's, <action>'s (default): (+m), +M n: nick change's: text's, <action>'s (default): (+N) t: text's, <action>'s (default): (kick), +b
G		Enables a bad-word check and replaces bad words which are sent to the channel.
h	<nick>	Gives <nick> halfOperator (%) status.
i		`/invite` is required to join this channel.
I	<nick>!<user>@<host>	Invite exception. Excludes <nick>!<user>@<host> to be invited to join the channel.
j	<joins>:<seconds>	Throttles the joins to <joins> joins per <seconds> seconds.
K		`/knock` is not allowed.
k	<key>	The key <key> is required to join.
l	<number>	A maximum of <number</i> users are allowed at this channel.
L	#<channel>	If the user limit (`+l`) is reached then forward users to the channel #<channel>.
M		user mode `+r` is required to speak.
m		Moderated. Only `+v, +h, +o, +a` may speak.
n		No messages from users whoh are not joined the channel.
O		Only IRCop's may join.
o	<nick>	Gives <nick> channel operator (@) status.
p		Marks the channel as private. Prevents that the channel is listed during `/list`.
q	<nick>	Gives <nick> channel owner (~) status.
Q		Only IRC-services (U-line'd IRC-server's) are allowed to kick.
R		user mode `+r` is required to join.
s		Marks the channel as secret. Prevents that the channel is listed during `/whois`.
t		Only channel operators are allowed to change the channel topic.
T		Notices are disallowed in the channel.
V		It is disallowed to `/invite` somebody.
v	<nick>	Gives <nick> voice operator (+) status.
z		Only users who are connected via SSL are allowed to join.

user mode's

Mode	Description
A	Is IRC-server administrator.
a	Is IRC-services administrator.
B	Is a bot.
C	Is co-administrator.
d	Prevents to receive channel messages.
G	Enables a bad-word check and replaces all bad words.
g	Can send/receive globops and locops.
H	Hides IRCop status.
h	Available for help and receive `/helpop !<msg>` messages.
i	Invisble. Prevents to be listed at /who.
N	Is network administrator.
O	Is local IRC operator.
o	Is global IRC operator.
p	Do not list the channel's you are joined in your `/whois`.
q	Only IRC-services (U-line'd IRC-server's) are allowed to kick you.
R	Only users who are `+r` are allowed to send you private messages or notices.
r	Marks your nick as registered and that you are currently identified by IRC-services (`/ns identify <password>`).
S	Is virtual user on a U-line's IRC-server and provides a service of IRC-services.
s	Can listen server notices.
T	It is not allowed to send you CTCP messages.
t	Is using a vhost.
V	Is a WebTV user.
v	Reveive notices about infected DCC SEND files.
W	You receive motices if anyone do a /whois on you.
w	Receive wallop's.
x	Cloaks your hostname. Recommended to set!
z	Is using a secure connection via SSL.
