An overview of the most known IRC daemons

Here you will find a list of well known IRC-daemon's. I can't cover all IRCD's but these below should be the important once. If you are not sure which you should use then it is recommended to use the IRCD of your IRC-network. If you like to create a new IRC-network then I recommend to use UnrealIRCd.

UnrealIRCd

UnrealIRCd is one of the most used IRC-daemon's for large IRC-network's. It is a fork of the IRC-daemon DreamForge (IRCu) and highly configurable. The pros are:

Hybrid IRCD

Hybrid is the IRC-daemon of the IRC-network EFnet. It is a high-performance and stable IRCD but does not support hostname cloaking. The pros are:

  • support for SSL port
  • channel- and nick-reservation

Bahamut IRCD

Bahamut is the IRC-daemon of the IRC-network DALnet. It is a DreamForge (IRCu) fork and does not support hostname cloaking.

IRCu

IRCu is the IRC-daemon of the IRC-network Undernet. It is a stable IRCD.

IRCd

IRCd is the origin of all other IRC-daemon's and is used at the IRC-network IRCnet. It is a stable IRCD.
